Places to See Games - in no particular order...
1. Lambeau Field - my parents did this one. The bars open at like 6am. You have to get there by like 7am to get a seat. The men's bathrooms are empty until halftime. Brats. Cheese. Yeah, I'm in. Might actually get a shot at this, family friends are Packers season ticket holders.
2. Solider Field - Bears fan. Never been there. Seen them win in Philly 3 times, and survived each time. That itself is an accomplishment. Major Mojo, resident Lions fan and Army Ranger, is planning on coming here for the Lions/Eagles this year. I told him he's on his own if he wears the jersey.
There you are, you're there! |
4. Wrigley Field - So this would be checked off, except someone in my family went and got pregnant and decided to have her baby shower the same weekend my buddy has his bachelor party in Chicago, where they... went to a Cubs game! Lucky for me, Major Mojo texted me a pic with a view from their roof top table. Also lucky for me, I was not on the business end of his texts to our other buddy trying to find the group while the Major was passed out in the hotel room. Wondering who in our family got pregnant? Well, let me run down current LB family members...
Sigh... |
- The wife - 30s, female
- ARG - 2 year old female
- Baby LG - still cooking male
5. Fenway Park - Check. Wife and I on one of our first weekends living in Boston, with the Red Sox out of it, grabbed a 20 dollar bleacher seat. Decided to sit behind the plate a few rows up and wait til someone moved us. 9 innings passed. We never moved. That'll do, donkey, that'll do.
6. Y***** Stadium - Check. I'm not counting the new one, and here's why - A. No tradition like the other one. B. Helped the in-laws get tix online. Two seats, 300 level, about 12 rows up, about 2/3 of the way to left field from the dugout... 70 bucks each. Reeeeeeeal fan friendly.
7. Dodger Stadium - In neutral colors, of course. Philly fans get the bad rap, deservedly, for some of their questionable behavior (can you just admit it... you all but admit it for Eagles games). But they are correct when they argue they aren't the worst. Dodger fans? They're the worst.
8. SF Giants Stadium - I don't feel like Googling who's naming it nowadays. Supposedly a Top 5. Seattle is in that discussion, but I'd rather visit SF, even though JB was just there and says it's overrated.
JB? Montreal? |
9. Any home hockey game in Canada (insert flag). Preferrably Montreal or Vancouver, but I'll take anything.
10. Any home football game in the SEC. Preferrably LSU or Alabama, but I'll take anything.
11. Any home soccer game in England. Preferrably Arsenal with my brother. But I'll take anything. Buddy of mine did this on a trip to Europe. His quote was something like, "if you think we care at all about sports, you've seen nothing."
12. The Final Four. Fah T has done this before. Preferrably New Orleans. Cool trick I read about once... don't get tickets, just go. Then, after the semis, go down and buy tix off the street from one of the losing fans.
13 Madison Square Garden - anything, really. Big East tourney tix are easy to get, but I'd prefer a Knicks game.
The NBA doesn't really seem to have any iconic spots, strangely enough. I hear OKC is a cool place to see a game. But then you're in OKC. Then what?
Everything Else
1. Any golf major. Check, as of the 2013 US Open, which is coming to Merion next year. Wife and I pre-ordered, she was all in immediately. Seriously, just typing that makes her hot. Wonder if she knows we're gonna have to leave at like 7am to go to this. Wonder if she's reading this. Anyways, I used to wake up really early to watch the entire final round of the British Open. So maybe that makes me a nerd. Or maybe one day I could go there, see if live, and while there, knock out...

2. Play a links style course in Ireland. Fah hit this, too. I don't think he played very well. Who would, wouldn't you just be in awe the whole time? That, and we suck at golf.
3. Meet a GM - had an outside shot at this. A consultant where I work is the daughter of a past GM who won a Super Bowl (keeping names out here). He called her when I was there. Unfortunately, he's not into email. She said he's probably be willing to talk to me. That was 3 years ago. Oh well.
4. Attend an Olympic 100m final - This is new to my list. I heard the 100m final in London was, according to many long time writers, the most electric sports atmosphere they had ever been to.
Woo hooh! Unofficial sponsor. |
6. Attend a World Cup game. I don't have anything to add. GOOOOOOOOAL!
7. Attend any championship Game 7.
8. Attend any championship game (e.g., World Series Game, Stanley Cup Finals game) that my team is in. I had a guaranteed ticket to Game 3 of the World Series last year if the Tigers were in. I was going to drive back one day, go to game, chill a day in the D, drive home. Damn you, Texas Rangers!!!
9. Attend a UFC Pay Per View event - almost did it in Philly. I love this sport, man, so much better than boxing. And once you understand it, it's really not as ruthless as it seems. Okay, so it's pretty ruthless. But it's pretty awesome, too.
Any time now, boys... |
