Thoughts on Vick, and this week's picks

Howdy. So according to the wife, I have more to say on Vick than what I put in Random Notes, so going to share a few thoughts before we get to this week's picks, which are unoffically brought by Yahoo Sports.

I am torn on how I feel about Michael Vick. Part of me is happy for him. Part of me things he's a complete d-bag for what he did, i.e., somewhat sociopathic behavior. He's quite obviously really fun to watch. That said, I find myself somewhat confus-ed every time he does something well. I get all revved up because he's so dynamic, then almost feel guilty for liking it. Weird, right?

I don't like Vick. But I'm not a Vick hater. Here's what it comes down to for me... I think that how we feel about what he's accomplished as a human being, i.e., starting to turn his life around, should have nothing to do with how he plays on the field, and right now, I think it does. We should celebrate his turning his life around, if he continues to do so, regardless of whether he's this year's MVP (definitely top 3 right now) or whether he goes Kerry Collins on us. I just think his "retribution" is tied into his touchdowns, and that's not right to me. I know that's not reality, and that the better he is, the more he'll be celebrated. But on some level, isn't that just wrong?

Random great point from the wife on the Vick thing: "Did you ever think you'd see Michael Vick be so much more popular than Tiger Woods and LeBron James?" No, darlin', I most definitely did not.

Anyways, speaking of the Iggles, I had them as a lock this week; however, I was not allowed to publish it because the wife took them in my suicide pool and was convinced I would jinx it if I published it. She agreed to vouch for my lock, so I got to 10-0, and made me acknowledge that every time I mentioned the lock, things went bad for the Eagles and that I "barely" covered. Got it. On to the picks:

New Orleans (-7) at Cincy - Doesn't this line seem like it should be like 13? I'm tempted to make this a lock, and may come back to it.

Giants (-7) vs. Washington - Giants just hoping no one else gets hurt.

Jags (+3) at Tennessee - I am coming around on this Jags team. I like them to win this outright.

Bears (-5) at Detroit - Alright, I'm in for Lock #1. Drew Stanton? Really? Only way Lions cover is if the Bears get trapped looking ahead, but I don't think so.

Bills (+5.5) at Minnesota - Taking the bait, taking the bait...

Browns (+5) at Miami - This line seems way to high. See above bait reference.

Green Bay (-10) over SF - Love the Pack, love the Pack... call it Lock #2. Or I guess that's three for the week, since the Iggles covered.

Denver (+9) at KC - Just a hunch.

Oakland (+13) at San Diego - Too many points, Raiders keep it close.

Atlanta (-3) at Tampa Bay - Is it me, or is Atlanta the best team in the NFC?

Carolina (+4.5) at Seattle - This has been bet down from 6. Usually bad to go with the public, but what the hell, it's not real money and not a lock.

St. Louis (-3.5) at Arizona - Zzzzzzz...

Colts (-6) vs. Dallas - Peyton turns things around in a shoot out game.

Ravens (-3) vs. Steelers - Big Ben too banged up for a win.

Pats (-3.5) vs. Jets - Jets get exposed late.

Alright, so locks are Bears -5 at Detroit and Packers -10 over SF. Email or Facebook me if you're interested. Hasta.

Vick is an odd case. The guy deserved every bit of the punishment he got, but he paid his dues and has handled himself pretty well since everything came to light.

I am supporting him at this point. Many people make mistakes (let's put dog fighting as a big mistake).

By the way, why would you pick against the Lions. They are the best team in the league against the spread.
