Athletes are (Dumb) People, too.

Careful, not the head!
I just read somewhere that athletes are people. I also once heard a saying, "a person is smart, people are dumb." So, by powers of deductive reasoning, athletes can be dumb, too. Enter Rashard Mendenhall, who proves to us that it may not be all those concussions or financial struggles dizzying the heads of NFL players.

LB exclusive!  The USA does not lose.
If you're late to the party, Mendenhall recently tweeted, to paraphrase, that he was ashamed of the country's celebration of the death of Bin Laden, that he was unsure if Bin Laden had actually been responsible for 9/11, and that he had serious doubts as to whether a plane could bring down the Twin Towers.

Wow. Paging Donald Trump. To his credit, he later apologized and said he meant to start conversation about whether our celebrating death was appropriate, if it was like the terrorists celebrating 9/11, etc. That's a legitimate idea, and that's fine. A little off the cuff, perhaps, but I get that. And maybe we could sluff off the stupidity because maybe Rashard missed the video of the planes hitting the towards and Bin Laden taking credit for it. I mean, he was only about 13 years old when it happened. And maybe Rashard learned his lesson on this one, and learned to hold his tongue. But this is the same guy who defended Adrian Peterson's comparison of NFL players being treated like slaves. Roh boy.

I'm not out to blame Rashard here, or to re-write a story that's been written about a million times the last few days. I'm here to provide a Public Service Announcement (PSA, peeps), to all athletes. Athletes, athletes-to-be, listen up. Cue soft music with kittens playing during entire PSA:

Makes any PSA good... and adorable.
Professional athletes, we admire, appreciate, and even love you.  You bring us pride, joy, passion.  You bring communities together.  You give our children heroes, role models.  You give to charity, give back to your communities.  You are generally good human beings.  If you aren't talking about sports or your good deeds, keep your mouths shut.  Keep your opinions to yourself.  There's nothing good that comes of it.  Ever.  Like politics?  Do like Heath Shuler and Kevin Johnson and retire first.  Have an opinion on Osama?  If it doesn't include, "God Bless America, and thank you to our troops," you shouldn't say it.  Controversy = bad.  Mainstream, positive talk = good = cash.  Think then speak.  Thank you for your time.  Purrrrrr...

Benefits of lockout, no Big U.
For Rashard, I don't know, maybe he's been spending too much time with Big Urkin.  By the way, BU's getting married soon. That is one brave woman, let me tell ya. Don't get on the motorcycle or go to the club, sweetheart. Money talks, kids.

Anyways, I guess we all owe a thank you to Rashard for reminding us that, yes, athletes are people, too, and yes, they can be mighty, mighty dumb sometimes.
