It's Tuuuuuuesday, meaning we're finally past the yearly "Team A got snubbed!" talk for the tourney. Is it just me, or does that get boring after about 10 minutes, and you really just want to hear about the teams that will be playing when the tourney starts on Thursday? And yeah, I said it, it starts Thursday. Go ahead, NCAA, I dare you to pretend otherwise. Oh, you already are. Okay. Back to where the rest of us reside...
Take this year. Did Colorado and Virginia Tech get screwed for UAB and VCU? Probably. Raise your hands if you were thinking of having Colorado or VCU as an upset pick for the Sweet 16. Exactly. Besides, if they had put Colorado and Va. Tech in, then all we would have heard of from the experts (read: Dickie V., who I love, by the way), is that the committee favors the big schools and ignores the mid-majors. The committee can't win.
Speaking of the committe can't win, did you realize the comittee is made up of non-basketball people? Do you know how much this burns the bristles of the LB commitee? This is so illogical, so wacked out... I mean, this guy could have done a better job this year. I don't even know what to say about this. No one wins when you do something that stupid. Except us, because the tournament is the awesomest awesome thing in the world.
Speaking of winning, I have a simple solution to the problems of all bubble teams, past, present, and future: win more games. Hell, this year, you could lose 14 and get in with no problem. I always love it when teams from any sport gripe about missing the playoffs, not getting in the BCS, not getting in the tournament, etc. Fellas? Ladies? You realize EVERY team controls it's own destiny? Not just when it's cliched to say it (read: December in the NFL). You all start 0-0. Or did I miss the memo where you take preseason polls to skew towards the bigger schools? Sorry, can't resist.
I want to feel bad for the bubble schools that lose out, only cause those kids are losing out on a chance of a life time. But then again, what about the kids from the small schools? And like I said, just win games, fellas, and you won't have to be one of those teams on CBS that gets their heartbreak broadcast to 10 million people.
By the way, from the totally hilarious file: the small schools that have automatic bids celebrating their announcement in the bracket like they just got a 1 seed and/or just got in off the bubble. Guys? You won your conference, remember? Still drunk from the celebration? I don't blame you. Michigan and Penn State were the only ones who seemed genuine, along with the utter defeat on the faces of the schools who got shut out. Real nice to broadcast those kids' biggest disappointments of their lives on national TV. You know the NCAA, though, always looking to support the student athlete by exploiting them for some extra bank.
Anyways, we all know who's going to win this year. Right? Right??? Sigh.
